Here are some photos from Mark and Dani's wedding last fall. There wedding was held at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, Vermont. I absolutely love this venue it completely screams Vermont no matter what time of year it was. Dani's niece (one of her flower girls) was also celebrating her birthday. What an awesome way to celebrate your birthday. Both of her flower girls were absolutely adorable. Mark and Dani had beautiful weather for a beautiful wedding.

A St. Patty's Day Wedding

A couple of weeks ago I was able to help a bride last minute. Beth called me the last week of February in a slight panic, her hairdresser had to cancel on her and her wedding was just in a couple of weeks. It being Vermont, in the winter means I really don't have too many weddings going on so I was able to help her out.  A St. Patty's Day wedding, honestly I didn't realize it was St. Patricks day until the day of the wedding. It was a 70 degree day on the top of Bolton. It was absolutely beautiful on a day they expected to be a normal winter day. Due to the short notice I never got the chance to have a trial with Beth so all and all we were going to wing it the day of which brings a little extra stress but everything came together and she looked beautiful even skiing down a mountain! Influence of Makeup

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to take a long weekend in NYC. My friends and I decided to go the MoMA (Modern Museum of Art) The great building which houses amazing pieces by Monet, Picasso, Modigliani, and Van Gogh. I was very excited to see these great works but I also realized that there were many pieces that dealt with beauty. Specifically Americas view on beauty. Here are a couple of pieces that caught my eye.

DIY Lipstick Pallets

Hey aspiring makeup artists or plain ole makeup lovers! I have been watching a lot of tutorials on how to make your own pallets and the one I thought was absolutely genius was how to make a lipstick pallet.

Lets get started! Here are the supplies you need:
Candle
Knife
Spoon
Water color pallets
Your lip colors
Paper towels
Cup of hot water

Use a tablespoon!

The best watercolor sets are Crayola they have a deeper well and can fit more product.

Step One: Organize your lip colors how ever you want. I chose to do my pinks, nudes, plums, and reds all separate.

Step Two: Pop out the water color from the pallet and rinse out well, let dry.

Step Three: Get a pen and paper so you can mark what color is where so you can label the later.

Step Four: Warm your knife in the cup of hot water.

Step Five: Cut about 3/4 of an inch of your lip color.

Step Six: Put color in spoon and place at least 2 inches above candle flame until melted, be careful not to burn. If you see the color start to have black swirls it is starting to burn.

Step Seven: Pour into your pallet.

 

Step Eight: While the leftover color on the spoon is still warm wipe off immediately with a paper towel. Be careful not to burn yourself on the spoon it is still hot!


Step Nine: Repeat until all done! Then you have an awesome organized pallet!

Good luck making your own pallet.
Notes: I found that most of my lipsticks melted very well, the only one that I had trouble with was my Stila lipsticks. I stopped melting those.

Things you may not think about!

So being a hairdresser to brides I end up putting in many different types of hair pieces. Everything from flowers to combs to the traditional veil. Here are some things to think about when it comes to choosing your hair accessories.
Veil or no veil?

If you are a traditionalist a veil is probably on your list of things to purchase. Something to think about.... Is your ceremony going to be outside? On a beach or boat? If your answer is yes you may want to think twice about the veil. You never know when a swift wind may strike. I have attended enough weddings to see that the veil can steal the show.  So think twice if you are having an outside ceremony.

Flowers or no flowers?

These flowers melted within minutes of  being in the heat. 

These flowers also eventually ended up wilting due to heat.

Fall weddings are perfect for fresh flowers!

Flowers are a great accessory and are very beautiful. The real question is fresh or fake. Well this all depends on the time of the year and again if you are going to be inside or out. If you are having a summer wedding or a wedding during a warmer time of year I really recommend using fake flowers. If you are inside or having a ceremony in cooler times of the year definitely go fresh!

Birdcage veils or hair pieces?

Either of these choices are perfect no matter what. They stay in place no matter the heat or wind!
